Inaugural World University Basketball Series Receives Web3 Support from Fellaz

The World University Basketball Series (WUBS) is delighted to announce that Rakuten has partnered with Fellaz, a Singapore-based Web3 entertainment company, to represent the empowerment and support of the next generation of basketball players and dancers at the inaugural WUBS tournament.

Established in 2022, the multi-chain Web3 entertainment ecosystem, Fellaz (https://fellaz.xyz/) has the ambitious mission of defining and paving the way for a new paradigm of global entertainment through the integration of the metaverse and blockchain. The project will help users from the entertainment industry transition from Web2 to Web3 through a Web3-native infrastructure. Fellaz hopes to empower influencers, artists, and fans by providing them tools that enable the decentralized ownership of data, monetization of their potential, and community engagement, in place of the conventional way of doing business in which the platform monopolizes control over governance and revenue distribution.

The partnership sees Fellaz coming on board as the official blockchain partner of Sun Chlorella’s World University Basketball Series (WUBS). WUBS is an annual champions league-style tournament for university basketball teams and the inaugural tournament will host top university teams from Indonesia, Japan, Philippines and Chinese Taipei at Yoyogi National Stadium Second Gymnasium in Tokyo from August 9-11, 2022.

The first edition is an invitation-only event featuring four top university teams: Pelita Harapan University (UPH) from Indonesia, Tokai University from Japan, Ateneo de Manila University from Philippines and National Chengchi University (NCCU) from Chinese Taipei. The teams will compete in a series of six round-robin games over three days to claim the series championship. Future plans call for expansion in the number of participating teams and countries each year.

The new partnership will see Fellaz presenting special dance segments throughout the tournament led by a team made up of experienced dance professionals and influencers from Japan. This also aligns with WUBS’s vision of empowering and providing a platform for local talent. The tournament gives collegiate players and teams a platform to showcase their skill on an international stage. By bringing together university teams to compete each year for the series title, WUBS aims to take university basketball to new heights and bring the global basketball community closer together.
